CAI continues to receive questions about requirements for employers to use E-Verify. Legislation (HB 36) was passed in the 2011 session of the North Carolina General Assembly requiring all North Carolina government and private employers with 25 or more employees to use the federal E-Verify system to ensure that newly-hired employees are legally authorized to work in the United States.
The compliance dates for this new law were as follows:
10/1/2011: Municipalities and Counties
10/1/2012: Employers that employ 500 or more employees
01/1/2013: Employers that employ 100 or more employees
07/1/2013: Employers that employ 25 or more employees
