Daylight Saving Time ends at 2:00 am on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014. At that time, clocks should be moved backward one hour as the nation returns to Standard Time.
Employers with continuous or shift operations often question how the time change affects shift workers’ overtime eligibility under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Shift employees who are on duty when Standard Time goes into effect will work an extra hour, which in many cases means working nine hours during a typical eight-hour shift. These employees must be paid for nine hours and are entitled to overtime on the basis of all hours worked in the week, including the extra hour occurring as a result of the time change.
