The North Carolina Industrial Commission (NCIC) has announced that the mileage rate for 2015 is $0.575 per mile for workers' compensation benefits claimants. The new reimbursement rate is in accordance with the NCIC’s policy to annually recognize rates set by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The current IRS standard rate is $0.575 per mile. If employees travel 20 miles or more round trip for medical treatment in workers’ compensation cases, they are entitled to collect for mileage at this new rate.
In addition to mileage reimbursement, lodging and meal expenses incurred by employees are reimbursable if the overnight stay is deemed medically necessary. Costs related to parking fees and transportation for hire may also be reimbursed if such is deemed medically necessary.
