If you are anything like me, and have no time to cook a proper meal to bring to work, then you might like this post. I have a ton of Mason jars just laying around the house and I have finally put them to good use. I'm making Mason jar salads, they are so easy to prepare, keep your salad ingredients fresh, and make the perfect and healthy work lunches.
The secret to a perfect and tasty Mason jar salad is all in the order.
The dressing goes in first-this is so important because it will prevent your salad ingredients from getting soggy.
Next step is to go with a grain or a protein, or anything else big and chunky.
Then the fixings. Little thinks like nuts, raisins, cheese.
And if you have any leafy greens they go in last. That way when you are ready to eat and turn your Mason jar over to unload it all into a bowl, the greens will make the salad bed!
Here are a few ideas on some delicious salad combinations:
1. Burrito Bowl Salad: Greek yogurt, quinoa, salt, peppers, lemon zest, lime juice, fresh cilantro, grilled chicken breast, coconut oil, chopped lettuce, greek yogurt, and shredded cheese.
2. Egg and Avocado Salad: your favorite dressing, carrots, cucumbers, red and green peppers, cooked beets, black beans, cooked rice, cheese, boiled eggs, avocados, tomatoes, and some strawberries, next add any nuts, and salad greens.
The good thing about Mason jars is that you can store salads in them and refrigerate them up to 5 days. So you can prepare most of your salads for the week on a Sunday night and then just pick and choose which one to bring to work during the week!
